My guess is they are betting on the Ute fanbase as their core over time. They see that BYU is giving them less access as time goes on (kind of self fulfilling with how they are covering BYU) and see IMG as competition. They know they will get the whining short sided drama queen BYU fan in addition to the Ute fan by talking bad about BYU so there really isn't a huge downside unless BYU does well and the self loathing BYU fan in them disappears for a while.
