We did the same thing for 2 of our 3 kids
Great experience. We were at a hospital, so we were covered for potential medical emergencies. I was also comforted by the fact that the midwife had delivered hundreds of babies and was really an RN with an advanced degree. Our first birth had the traditional nurse/Dr. set-up and I wasn't as thrilled about the experience. The nurse did 98% of the work and the Dr. showed up just in time to catch the baby and instruct the resident on how to stitch things back up.
