though admittedly I am the one who has chosen to work for employers that base bonus entirely on company performance. Doesn't matter how high I have been rated individually, if the company doesn't meet plan bonus is withheld. I do find that companies will tend to do one off or retention bonuses to high performers in those situations though, and those have been nice surprises. But each time I sit down for salary negotiations I try to push hard on salary just because I have no faith in maximizing bonus potential.
