I could see players that recently left the program and have strong personal connections with other current players being more of a distraction than less recent players.

The fact that a player supposedly booted him just reinforces this idea that he was probably viewed as a distraction in the locker room. In my mind, there's no reason any player should personally feel entitled, whether or not others have been permitted in the locker room.
