an old-time New England tradition
is to bury the placenta in the yard and plant a sapling fruit tree on top of it. Supposed to be super nutritious for the tree and then the child and the tree have a bond. I think it's a beautiful tradition--at least it was when people lived their whole lives on one plot of land.
