RE: Can we take this as a sign that our offense is moving away from option first
Taysom knows that if he is going to get to the next level he needs to develop his pocket presence. The offense that Christian Stewart ran is also the offense that Taysom will run for BYU to be successful. Taysom will still run, but he should be running on designed plays that protect him or when the pocket breaks down, not when he gets jumpy or needs to move in the pocket. The offense that Stewart ran was not way different from the offense that Taysom ran, however the playcalling by coach Anae was different. Most people aren't seeing that correlation. Taysom has met with the coaches multiple times, and also former players, to try and make sure that he is developing the right habits to promote his progression as a QB. The coaches know how Taysom feels about staying healthy and calling the offense that protects him, as well as an offense that takes advantage of BYU's size and speed at WR. BYU has some bruising running backs that should be taking the hits instead of Taysom, and running backs that want the rock and are looking to punish defenders (Algie).

Don't get me wrong, Taysom wants to run and wants to show his athleticism but he knows that the coaches need to be strategic in when those plays are called. Think of Taysom trying to design his runs like Russel Wilson this year as opposed to always feeling like Michael Vick running all over the field in previous years. Pass first, run second.
