It's sad that recruits have become so impatient
That the quarterback evironment in college football has devolved into what it is. There is no way that we should be seriously considering relying on a VERY recently returned missionary to be primary back up just weeks after serving. He should get at least a year to get his mind and body back into football mode. Not only is he very unlikely to be productive in 2015 (look at the historical track record of recently returned rm qbs at byu), but I believe rushing Mangum back puts his physical and mental development in jeopardy. I mean, listen to what Steve Young has said about his development. He says that he owes much of his success to watching Jim McMahon in practice and games for the first 2 years of his career. He didn't even have to deal with the issues of serving a mission on top of it all.

But we really are in this position largely due to the fact that if recruits aren't promised a strong likelihood of starting early in their careers, they transfer. It's a good thing Young was willing to pay his dues as 8th string on the depth chart. That doesn't happen much anymore, and I believe it not only hurts the football programs, but the players themselves.

Hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully if/when Taysom gets hurt, Mangum jumps right in and shakes off the rust and has a good year without having his confidence beaten up too badly. He's a great talent, but history is against that happening.
