About a year ago we had: Billy Green, Ammon Olsen, Trent Hosick, and others like Tannner all behind Taysom. Cupboard over floweth! How often has BYU had 3 back up QBs all decide to bail at the same time? Had only two of them left we would be in very good shape. No way could anyone predict this. That is difficult to recover from for any team who doesn't get votes to be in the top 10 just because of their logo.
Coaches said they looked at JC QBs who would fit at BYU and none of them looked any better than a returning Mangum or a fresh Hoge.
I completely believe a solid OL will make any QB look good and is the key here. If our OL will be solid not only will that keep Taysom healthy but it would also provide time and a running game for a Mangum or whoever, to make things happen. I think Stewart's success is just as much on the backs of the OL as it was on his own arm. The guy had no offers... zero! Maybe he was under the radar but a walk-on who ends the season slinging the ball around as good as anyone in D1 football doesn't happen without a solid OL.
Let's stop whining about our #2QB and revel in the fact that we have a Heisman contender returning. We can hope our OL is as nasty as ever and also cross our fingers Bronco doesn't have Taysom returning punts in practice....
Who knows, maybe Taysom goes down early and Hoge turns out to be a mormon Jonny Manzeil with morals and some class.
Go Cougars!
