Hate to disagree but
one of my work scanners is 15 years old now and still works great. It actually costs more to buy it (or the new iteration of it) now than it did when it was originally purchased back in 2000. It's a professional graphics scanner with a transparency adapter made by Epson. Here it is without the transparency adapter, which is about a $500 add-on.

If you buy good peripherals, they often hold their value and give you good service for many years.
