Memories of Mom
Thanks for such a wonderful tribute of Mom.

Mom's faith was especially present in how she cheered for the Cougars. If BYU had an amazing comeback, she would point out that the comeback started just as she started cheering extra extra hard.

I remember going to the BYU vs SDSU 52-52 tie. I was tired and fell asleep halfway through...BYU was down 28 points after all. Mom started cheering extremely hard, and I woke up. I remember Jamaal Willis catching a 4th down pass from Ty Detmer one handed and essentially saving the game. And on the way back, she told us BYU started to come back when she focused all her mental energy on BYU.

Beck to Harline was also another one. We stopped at your friend's house in Mesa on the way back from Thanksgiving to watch the game. BYU was down by 11 points with half a fourth quarter to go and it looked extremely dire. Mom got that intense look in her eye and started muttering underneath her breath. After the miracle toss by Beck we all jumped up and down, and exclaimed that we couldn't believe it. Mom smiled and said that the comeback started when she started focusing extra hard.

The last game I remember watching with Mom after her diagnosis was BYU vs Houston in 2013. We went to the city festival that morning because Mom wanted us to hang out with the grandchildren. It was a perfect California blue sky day. However I was kind of preoccupied checking the game on my phone. I remember her sitting by herself, eating ice cream, and feeling a sense of sadness. There were all these unknowns...how much longer did she have, did she feel scared...it was a bittersweet moment. We got home in time to see the 4th quarter of the Houston game and I went upstairs to watch. By this time Mom had very little energy after our outing, so she mostly napped on the couch. Taysom Hill ended up making that amazing pass to Skyler Ridley and there was the interception by Fua at the end that clinched the game. And after it was over, Mom smiled and said she knew the come back started when she started cheering.
