Riley fractures vertebrae in his back and you can't keep him off the field or convince him not to play even when he hurts the team, a guy like Austin Collie takes several significant shots to the head in the NFL and you can't keep him off the field, etc. I remember the nervousness I felt at first when I started playing basketball again for the first time coming back from an ACL tear. It was a couple games before I started to feel confident again. It's understandable when it takes a player some time to overcome fear.
If that was a major reason for his not making it back to his pre-concussion level of production that is too bad. He had tremendous potential and it's sad he didn't reach it.
