As far as equity/investment is concerned it is in fact a "gift"
There is no legal expectation/promise of exchange of goods and you are not entering into a contract to receive a product.
"Gift" based crowd-funding. Equity crowd-funding for non-accredited investors is hopefully still coming though the SEC has been slow to issue rules. Lot's of enforcement problems with FINRA too.
