I think that he got burned out by the business
I also heard that there was some jealousy towards him, especially from Glen Frey. I don't think that he liked the fact that Randy had some big songs like 'Take it to the Limit' that stole time away from himself being in the spotlight. Glen and Don also minimized Randy a little bit during the whole Rock & Roll HOF induction process, although he did get up on stage with them and perform. Randy played a much larger role in the success of the Eagles than Timothy Schmidt ever did--by the time Timothy came along, they were mega-successful and on a collision course towards breaking up.
