BYU decided to go indy before knowing if they had a network deal locked in. BYUtv has such good facilities and production that BYU could syndicate and sell its own product if necessary. ESPN is far preferable, but if ESPN were to drop BYU (highly unlikely), BYU would have plenty of options as an independent that would be superior to the MWC.
