They would kill a cow. Skin it (sale the skin) then hang the cow from their darrac (high pole) outside in front of the barn where it would stay frozen through the winter.

I Asked about birds getting to it and he said they didn't mind birds pecking at it but tried to keep it covered with blankets to keep the bird droppings off it.

As a result he still likes his steak well done but doesn't mind the flies in his soup
