and they wrote the check directly to us. It was for something in the neighborhood of $4500. The contractor cost $4000, and I pocketed the difference. In this case it's going jointly to us and the mortgage company (probably because the cost of repairs are so high??), so I don't know if I will get to pick and choose what I spend the money on.
