Here's one typical comment
"Brigham Young University is an institution of indoctrination. At Brigham Young University students are taught to believe, not think. At BYU major sports such as football and basketball are used as marketing tools for BYU's ultimate benefactor, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). The LDS church is a multinational corporation masquerading as a Christian church. It is in the best interest of the LDS church to gain positive exposure through having its sports teams appear on national television via ESPN etc. or worldwide television via BYU TV. BYU football and basketball are the fish bait that sparkles on the end of a hook. And that's what it's all about. And that's why Tom Holmoe says that he'll do whatever it takes to compete. And that's why the LDS church is pouring church funds into these athletic programs. As for those who say that no tithing money is being used to fund these COA stipends, well, there's a four billion dollar shopping mall in downtown Salt Lake City that you should stroll through. Supposedly, no tithing money was used for that, either-- just income from LDS church investments. And the seed money for those investments came from where? Anyway, keep livin' the dream, diehard BYU Cougars, at least you're getting something out of your tithes and offerings: BYU sports is a way to palliate your cognitive dissonance regarding your religion."
