Throwing underhand is a much more natural motion and puts less stress on the
arm and shoulder joints.

ML Baseball used to be similar - you'd have 30 game winners who would pitch close to 400 innings in a season and the league leader in saves would have maybe only 5.

Today we are much more specialized and pitchers are on strict pitch counts to lessen the risk of arm fatigue and even injury.

This year's BYU baseball team has, I believe, 3 key pitchers who are out for the season with torn rotator cuffs or other season-ending arm injuries. I am not a softball aficionado, but I cannot recall the same fallout among their pitchers.

But I agree, it seems like the pitcher can be much more dominant in softball. It used to be worse. It seems like 20 years ago a 1-0 or 3-2 score was very common, kind of like soccer. It doesn't seem that low-scoring anymore.
