Good point, but I think there's a bigger reason.
I think Bronco is up against the tectonic shiftings of college football. Lavell had to fight against this, playing in the WAC. But the disparity of income and of perception between weaker conferences and so-called power conferences has blown up in the last 20 years. Lavell fought that battle more and more in his later coaching years - and his teams struggled a bit too toward the end. Heck, he even testified to congress about the ill-effects of the BCS!

Bronco is fighting as a have-not against a huge gang of haves, and in general he's losing. It's that simple.

By the way, I still haven't forgiven Bronco for his timeouts called in the bowl game. Someone can come in, as they did when I criticized Coach Rose, and want to know what my football qualifications are so they can compare them to Bronco's.. but you don't need to choose college football as a career to know that it was sheer idiocy to call those timeouts. In my opinion, that's just horrible coaching. So I'm not a Bronco apologist.

I DO think that a huge chunk of CBers blame him for EVERYTHING that is off with BYU, when I see him doing decently well in SPITE of the horribleness that is college football right now.
