I remember both
Robert Parish was already a 17 and 12 guy. I'm 14 years old and read in the paper that the Warriors have traded him and the #3 pick to the Celtics for the #1 and #13 pick. It did not make sense. You have a 17 and 12 guy at center. You have the #3 pick. What is not to like about that situation?

Joe Barry Carroll was slow and soft and never matched Parish's numbers. Of course, that #3 pick was used by the Celtics to get McHale. The Warriors used the #13 pick on Rickey Brown who was a scrub the few years he bounced around the league. The curse really started with the 78 draft when the Warriors picked Purvis Short one spot ahead of Bird. Yes, the Warriors could have had the Celtics HOF front court. I still don't understand that pick. Short was an undersized power forward who would later slide over to the three. The Warriors had moved an aging Clifford Ray to the four. What was wrong with drafting Bird to replace Ray?

Sonny Parker was a really, really good player who just disappeared when World B Free showed up and became a one-man show. Free needed the ball at all times and never saw a shot he didn't take.

So in just a few years, the Warriors got rid of all their team first players that had made them championship contenders and replaced them with cancerous druggie ball hogs like John Lucas, Free, Carroll, and Michael Ray Richardson. It was so bad that by the time the Warriors traded Parish, he was contemplating retirement, because he hated his selfish teammates so much.
