A JD isn't a doctorate
A JD is 3 years post undergraduate. A PHD is more typically 5 years. An MA is usually 2 years. A JD is just barely more than an MA.
I've never heard someone with just a JD called "Doctor". "Esquire" is the more appropriate honorific.
