Of course it wasn't a given Germany would win...but given a man advantage for 30+ minutes, who would you put your money on. It would have been an extremely long shot for the US at best.
But bottom line it wasn't given; no man advantage; Germany did miss the PK (as I acknowledged); the US caught a break with their PK; but they finished when it counted.
