between a grant of rights and an exit fee. Maryland owed an exit fee--a one time payment for leaving. The Big 12 actually owns media rights for several years. And while the ACC was annoyed with Maryland, the conference was not going to collapse. The Big 12 would absolutely hold its ground on the media rights provision, and I think it prevents OU or anyone else from leaving the Big 12 unless the conference disbands.
