So you want to be a quarterback
My son is a good athlete. He plays on a youth team with excellent coaching, and is a stud (for our league anyways) RB and MLB.

He has one year of youth football left, and then moves up to middle school. Most of his team will be at a different high school and middle school. His current coach's son is the QB, and there isn't any chance of getting any QB reps right now. My son is fine with that, he likes playing both sides of the ball, scoring a bunch of TDs, etc.

But when he moves up to middle school... he wants to be a quarterback.

The middle school he will go to typically is not very competitive. If they were in the old MWC, they'd be UNM. He is a catcher/SS/3B in baseball with a good arm. He's fast, smart, and tough. He is tall and muscular for his age. And he's the kid that will work out/practice on his own, even when the sport is out of season. Every night he does push-ups, pull ups, and sit ups before bed, just because he wants to stay in shape.

From a physical and mental makeup, he has a lot of tools that will help him be successful, and there won't be a ton of competition at his school. The good news is that the high school he will go to has a new HC, and will run a spread offense. The middle school HC is a young, energetic coach who is supposedly on board with aligning his program with the high school.

Of course, my son has no prior experience at QB, but I don't think that's a big deal. He has plenty of football experience and intangibles. But obviously, he will need to build skills. We have 13 months until middle school football practice starts. For those of you that have been down this road, what should we be doing to help him reach his goals? I am fortunate to be able to utilize whatever resources needed to help him, so camps and nutrition are in play here. Just looking for some advice on how to proceed.
