If you look closely
you should be able to find the seam. Follow it with the utility knife and cut the tape on the back. That's all that is holding the seam together. The seam probably is in the middle of the tape. Once you start to cut you can pull one side of the carpet up making it easy to follow the seam. If you cut carefully, all you'll cut is the tape, not the carpet. That way you won't mess up the seam.
