You will have to go basically to the end of the shuttle line to Wonder Lake. Even then, it's obscured by clouds 90% of the time. It's worth it to go into the park, because you will see more concentrated wildlife in the park than out. You will see Denali driving to or from Anchorage if the skies are clear. It's at least 4 hours of a drive.
I would also consider going to the Kenai Penninsula to Kenai Fjords National Park near Seward. You can take a day cruise on Resurrection Bay to many of the sites. You can also hike to Exit Glacier and see how far it has receded over the past 100 years.
