now, but having all of this recognition as a P5-level program is going to make it easier for Tom and crew to work out a better deal for us the next time the college football playoff contract is renegotiated. Maybe we can work towards a ND-like situation as far as getting a bigger chunk of playoff money is concerned. In other words, being recognized as a P5-like team now may lead to actual P5-like benefits down the road. The bowl situation is more difficult, but maybe we can close the money gap somewhat.

What we really hope is that all of this becomes meaningless as we join a P5 conference. But, since we're still independent at this point in time, this announcement by the B1G is a pretty big deal.
