"To Do" list when getting a dog:
1) Get a black light to see exactly where the dog is peeing in the house so it can be cleaned up promptly before stain and odor set in.
2) Get a neighbor or friend willing to walk, poop and pee the dog 2-3 times every day while you are away.
3) Begin saving for boarding once you can't find a neighbor or friend that is available when needed and wants that kind of commitment.
4) Begin saving to replace your carpet and refinish your hardwood flooring.
5) Begin saving to replace your furniture, landscaping, kids toys and shoes.
6) Begin saving for the construction of a kennel once the dog becomes an "outside dog" due to damage and smell.
7) Begin saving for vet bills.
8) Begin saving for grooming bills if you get a white or long-haired breed.
9) Begin looking for someone to adopt your dog once your kids lose interest (so roughly 2 weeks after getting the dog).
10) Repeat this process once your next child becomes "dog age".
