started as an intern, then worked up to GA, then worked up to position coach before he was made DC. After doing all that, it's nonsense to think his experience 6 years earlier as a HS coach at Ben Lamond should have been the deciding factor in whether to promote him to DC.
I think he flat out sucked as DC. He wasn't ready. "Supposedly" he is a fantastic Xs and Os guy. He's supposedly a brainiac when it comes to football. He's obviously not ready to run a D1 defense. He didn't make good in-game decisions. It's unknown whether he'll ever be ready or capable of doing that.
All that being said, his record as a HS head coach is irrelevant after spending 6 years (now in his 9th year) in the BYU program.
