LDS culture values wallowing in past pain. Every conference has a talk about

how the Willy and Martin handcart company suffered. Also, stories of people burying children on the plains, only to look back and see wolves digging up the grave. Plus a couple talks on cancer and people having their children die. My wife won't even watch a RS broadcast because they always have stories of tragedy and misery.
