Drove me nuts last year watching Davis. I was sitting close in the Nevada game
and he was playing well off the receiver a number of times....as we know typical BYU, allowing the receiver to get a 5-10 yard running start before reaching the defender. But in the case with Davis it seemed he almost wouldnt move when the ball was snapped, not a step forward back, not tilting angling his body or anything, and wouldnt move until the receiver was passing him or cut in our out. Several times in seemed the receiver just ran untouched by him, and Davis would go from a complete statue to chase mode. To his credit he has very good speed and would often do so. However it just seemed so strange to me to not be in any sort of motion until the receiver is running by.

Maybe that is how they are taught, certainly the big cushion has been talked about a ton on CB. But not having a backpeddle at the snap to then turn and run with a guy or not having a creep forward to shorten the distance at the snap of the ball and get a body on the receiver....I just found it frustrating.
