There are a few positions that are more critical pre-snap to make reads/calls.

Center and QB on offense. Kat and MLB on defense. If you don't have the right pre-snap reads/calls, it is hard to do anything.

Also, we have seen what bad snaps can do to a play. With how much BYU is in shotgun, that snap is critical. And the guy behind him isn't anywhere nearly as consistent as Tejan.
