First of all there is no such thing as rational fandom. It is an oxymoron. Fan comes from fanatic which precludes rationality. So of course you've never met a rational Ute fan. You've also never met a rational BYU fan or Jazz fan or Chicago Bulls fan. Anyone claiming the title rational fan is a liar.
I do try to get perspective as best as possible but my biases are strong and I accept that. My point is to an outsider a bunch of BYU fans making fun of disciplinary action or inaction of any team tonight seems really really farcical. You can appreciate that right? I'm not claiming Utah Football is or ever has been a bastion of rectitude or perfect from a legal or moral perspective. Do I wish it were? Sure. Do I and many alums of my school claim to represent the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world on a regular basis? Nope. BYU fans can't have it both ways. You can't claim a higher standard and then not enforce common decency and expect everyone to ignore it. Is it fair? Maybe, maybe not. But my mom always told me life isn't fair.
