up yards between the 30's and then stalling in red zone is the difference between a "good' OC and a "great" one. the only thing that matters is points. we ran the ball on 1st down almost every single time. we continue to send out nate carter despite 5 games worth of data that he is not effective as a runner. (shocking that garbage time vs MWC teams actually means nothing!)
for about 50 minutes BYU looked like a mid-level MWC team that might barely make a bowl game. the game plan is boring, uncreative and so simple that any defense in the country can perfectly scout us after 2-3 weeks into the season. no adjustments, no wrinkles. we're either gonna pound the ball anae's way "heck or high water".
anae's effort to move the WR's to avoid man pressure was a great adjustment. other than that it was the same old stuff. we cannot blame anae for bad plays by players but the ONLY time i was like "wow...nice play" (from a schematic point of view) was the TD to mathews where we faked one side, rolled out mathews to the other. that was creative, perfectly timed and well executed.
we've seen this before from anae but his offense looks explosive and fast when someone explosive and fast (and creative) is at QB (taysom) who can improvise and cover flaws inherent in his playbook. this looks exactly like every other anae offense which will feast on crappy teams, struggle against good ones and we will be depending on our fast, creative, aggressive defense to make plays to win the game. in 2015 that is a recipe for disaster.
