Executing the plays has made all the difference this year.
If our plays are so predictable, they should be easy to stop, right? This is what you're arguing correct? If unlearned individuals can call out the play BYU will run, then there's no reason why D1 DC's won't pick up on this and shut it down, right? But for some strange reason, BYU has had success in making plays and scoring points. Heck, we've even won some games with the most predictable offense ever.

Looking at our offensive production through the last 5 games:
@ NU: 511 total yards. 379 passing, 132 rushing.
vs BSU: 381 total yards. 309 passing, 72 rushing. (Loss of Taysom/JW being the most significant drop in rushing yards)
@ UCLA: 405 total yards. 244 passing, 161 rushing.
@ Michigan: 105 total yards. 55 passing, 50 rushing.
vs UConn: 539 total yards. 365 passing, 174 rushing.

Michigan is apparently the only team with a competent DC. Our offense has always been predictable under Anae, and yet miraculously BYU is able to put up some big numbers. Michigan is the only exception so far this year. Not every team can do what Michigan did. They have gotten much better since week one. BYU could call the play at the line of scrimmage, and I'll bet we'd still see success because execution matters.
I think the majority of our frustrations come from a lack of execution. We should have put up at least 14 more points against UConn, and would have if Kurtz caught those two passes, both of which were catchable. We might run a predictable offense, but when the players execute, we're pretty good regardless if the defense/fans could predict the play.

I've said it before, but football is a game of inches. It's won and lost by execution of technique and assignments. Whoever plays a more fundamentally sound game is going to win, no matter how much faster or physical the other team is.
