With some of the Cleveland/Rose/Bronco chatter yesterday, and the thread about
"if you remove Jimmer's 4 years, Rose is no better than Cleveland" I thought I'd re-post some old analysis.

Here's the spreadsheet for the TLDR crowd: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1q8d4ZieVgFIhQ5zT0M8sggpB3-yLU1-ObQkumbM5Z7Q/edit#gid=6

Take a glance down column B and column C to compare metrics, then glance at the previous 5 decades, and feel free to draw your own conclusions about the Rose era compared to Cleveland and any other.

Despite our fan angst of wanting/wishing for more, it's pretty clear this is the best stretch we've ever had. Even in the last 4 years, we've had two 25 win seasons where Cleveland's best season in 8 tries was 24. Plus, Rose's teams are more fun to watch because of the style of play.

I won't address the "if you take away Jimmer" argument at length, because it's such a silly argument. It's like saying "if you take away all the money our CFO has saved the company, really he hasn't saved us anything" or "if you take away his promotions, our VP is still just a junior associate." If Jimmer was somehow gifted to the coaching staff on a silver platter, and they misused him yet still won, I could somewhat see the argument. But they 1) found him in a remote location 2) offered him when no one else but teams like Sienna had 3) developed him and 4) used him in a way that maximized wins and exposure for the program, so guess what...it counts.

Not only that, but "taking away" Jimmer's four years b/c, uh, he was good I guess, essentially assumes that without him in those 4 years Rose wouldn't have accomplished anything. And no one can know that...when Jimmer was out with mono his junior year we plugged in Mike Loyd Jr. and continued to win. And the year after Jimmer that team won 26 games, so with Jackson Emery that same mix of guys still would have been a strong team in the NCAA tourney. So that argument holds no water.

I'll leave the football comparison to the side, but wanted to at least inject some bball metrics in to the conversation.
