That's higher than what I would have guessed
Most states require school districts to adopt a salary schedule. It's basically a grid that lists educational experience on one side and years of experience on the other. You start in one corner with a first year teacher with just a bachelor's degree and move down and across from there with higher pay for more experience and more education.

My district's starting salary for a first-year teacher with just a bachelor's degree is $32,750. The schedule maxes out at 40 years of service with a Master's plus 24 hours of classes at $56,541. You can earn add ons to your salary by getting national board certification and a few other things. The add ons amount to around $2500 a year each.
