My impression is that it's more prestige, satisfaction and education than pay
Though they do pay comparatively more, I'm not sure anyone comes closing to paying a doctor's salary. Finland, for example, pays teachers about the national average salary. But it's a much more respected, rigorous, and desired profession. They also require a master's degree to teach anything other than preschool and kindergarten -- which degrees I believe the state finances.
