Something I never understood about the honor code...
When an LDS student makes a mistake (sleeps with their girlfriend or goes to a bar), why is it up to a random council of people to take away their HC good standing? Shouldn't it be between the bishop and the student? If they're on the right track of repentance or whatever, why can't they stay in school? In addition to the ecclesiastical endorsement, the bishop's word and guidance should have more power.

Seems like a committee is so far removed from the student's actual spiritual journey and that they're making something very private into public affairs.
