like some on this message board. It's standards are above those of the church in some respects (HC) and over the years it has developed a reputation as being "a destination" for the most worthy and capable latter-day saints. Deserved or not, it is the perception. So it is easy to see how that can naturally lead to apathy at best and disdain at worst. There was also a period of almost 30 years where BYU fans didn't show the greatest empathy or tact when BYU was riding high. I remember too many church meetings where Cougar victories got rubbed in people's faces. Of course there is a lot ore to it than this, but the school, its students and its fans at times can be overbearing, overconfident and yes.....the word we hear all the time here in Salt Lake.....arrogant. The air has come out of the BYU football arrogance the last few years, but the other arrogance is still there. It is the age old question....Is it The World is our Campus, or is it Our Campus is the World?
My son is down there right now and loves it, but it has been a real eye opening experience for him seeing how zealous some students are down there. Zealous may not even be the right word to describe them as it doesn't paint the total picture.
