Honestly, outside SLC anyway, it has more to do with fewer and fewer locals
being admitted to BYU, and more attending the U. When I was in high school, a sizable percentage of us were admitted and attended BYU, but it just isn't the case anymore. Let's face it, you're usually going to become a fan of the school you go to, and the success of Utah's FB program makes it easier. Then fans polarize the situation, and you end up hating BYU. Is it irrational? Probably, but what college football rivalry isn't?
