English introduced a system of alternating QBs using Wilson (a junior) and McMahon (a sophomore). Their playing time was mostly arbitrary, and both considered transferring. After the season LaVell fired English, Wilson was named the starter, and McMahon redshirted the following season in order to salvage 2 seasons for him as the starter. It was one of the biggest disasters of LaVell's tenure.
