Ok, please tell me "iron-manning" the suit wasn't in the book?

It was an incredibly stupid move to an otherwise awesome film that pretty much "kept it real" the entire ride. I kept thinking he'd pretty much be dead with the amount of time he was hugging his commander while waiting to be towed in and/or he'd at least be thrown at the wrong trajectory.

The most unbelievable part of the entire movie.

I DID like ditching the nose cone and the windows on lift-off though. That was a smart idea. I bet that was in the book...
