Don't try to force them to 'watch' the game. Kids watch it in a different way
than you or I. Plan to get them some treats.. popcorn and Frozen Lemonade last longer than a Cougartail or Brownie. Pace/ration the treats as you don't want to have them bored or needing to go to the "potty" every 7 minutes.

We bring Tablets, 3DS and things like that. As exciting things happen in the game, they will pay attention, but a football game has lots of nothing going on. The key is to help them have a good gameday experience. My kids don't remember that during the Savannah State game last year they watched Despicable Me played Luigi's Mansion the whole time... nope... they remember that the game was fun, we scored lots of points and they got to high 5 all the players after. Even right after the game, they swear up and down that they watched every moment of every snap... but more importantly they had a great time and built memories around going to a BYU football game as a family. The plus side as well, is that with them distracted by something, YOU actually get to watch some of the game. Not as much as if you were there alone, but it is about building memories. When they are older, they will enjoy going with you AND be able to actually watch and enjoy the game.

If you look around at the families that have been going to the games together for years, they treat it much more like they would watching a game from home. It is more important for everyone to be comfortable, than it is for everyone to be watching with focused attention. Accept that your kids will probably not watch much of the actual game, and your life will be much easier.

We take all 8 of our kids to a few games each season. Once we stopped trying to force them to have a good time the same way we as adults were, everyone started enjoying the games more.
