Selling out or not selling out LES - some on the board just don't get it
We have all read and seen the stadium is not always selling out. Like you, I wish it was sold out every game. Well, guess what? That is the trend in college and professional sports. Attendance is down for the "majority" of schools and teams. Some may refer to Nebraska and their great sellout record - have you ever been to Nebraska? With nothing to do on a Saturday, you might as well go to the game - okay, I am kidding. But like I said, the majority of schools and professional teams are experiencing a decline in attendance.

Some have posted BYU use to always sell out against WAC and MWC foes. That is true. However, people forget that BYU's games were not always shown live on TV. Therefore, people came out to watch the games live. People can now sit in their living rooms or man caves and watch BYU live HD TV or even their I-phones. Not to mention people have far more entertainment choices today than say even five years ago. As you sit in a restaurant or movie theatre how many people are on their I-phones? When dating our daughter and her boyfriend while sitting next to each would text each other. It drove my Sweetheart and I insane - open our mouths!!!!!!

A friend of mine has taken his son to the first two games at home. His son has sat quietly reading his books vs. watching the game.

I believe that if BYU blacked out it's home games in the state of Utah or at least in Utah County and the immediate surrounding counties, we would see a return of fans to the stadium.

Professional sports understands this, thus blackouts are common. Utah's games are not always on TV yet they don't always sellout rice chex either and its 20,000 seats less than LES.

BYU vs. UCLA - two top ranked teams playing in a county with a population (2013) of 10.02 million. Guess what? The Rose Bowl was not sold out! With a capacity of 92,592 and the announced attendance at 67,612, or 73% of capacity. Now for those of us in attendance, I think we can say while it was not a sellout, there was far more in attendance than what was announced. But again, the point being TV, weather and other choices people have are impacting attendance everywhere! Friday night games suck! Especially for us, who have to travel distances to be in attendance or return from out of town on business trips. We make it work, but it's not always easy.

Come out and enjoy the games in person!
