a G5 program - haven't for decades. And independence has shoved us completely out of the G5 ranks. We make way more money and have way more resources than any G5 program. There are plenty of P5 programs with more resources, and that's the issue. Contrary to what you think, the powers that be do want to compete at the P5 level. Therefore, we need to do whatever we can to keep bringing in revenue. Voluntarily giving up our independent TV situation, with all the money and exposure it brings, would be going in the wrong direction.
