I don't think you'd consider Mendenhall an oddball if he were in your ward.

He's not himself when he's in front of the media.
Away from the media, he's a different guy.

I haven't seen a lot of it, but I saw him at the cubs football camp for younger kids last summer for 3 days and he was a very likable guy. I can imagine why parents would want their son to play for him.
