CU was taken ahead of time so when the other schools from Oklahoma and Texas arrived, it would do so without Baylor. Taking CU was all about not having Baylor as it was a religious school. It was a gamble. They did not want Utah as they wanted the big 12 schools. In order to not have Baylor, they invited the five schools after Colorado was invited. When the Five schools changed their mind, the pac10 was stuck having to find a partner in Utah.
