Thank you to the folks at Vanquish the Foe for this. Stats don't tell the whole story and the sample sizes vary but it is interesting to consider (from games going back to Jan 1). We've seen frustratingly slow starts (repeatedly) to open games. It shows our worst lineup has been our starting lineup with KC, Chase, Nick, KD and Nate. On the surface it looks like having KD and Nate on the floor together is a bad combo but when you swap Nick Emery out for Jordan Chatman then it becomes a very productive lineup. I don't think this stat indicates that Nick needs less time as much as it indicates Rose needs to look at swapping out the streaky, ice-cold, high-volume shooters a little more, probably to include Chase Fischer.

I like what Chatman brings to the mix, he's a more patient player, will make the extra pass, and can put the ball on the floor and get into the paint. His role has been real sporadic and thus hasn't given him the opportunity to build some confidence with his offensive game but trimming a few minutes from both Fischer and Emery when they are chucking up bricks will give Chatman a more regular role in the rotation and give him the opportunity to find his stroke and his niche in the offense.

I also like what Seljaas brings, he reminds me a bit of Stephen Rogers and gives us some length and the ability to shoot over perimeter defenders. Before hurting his shoulder he was starting to put the ball on the floor a little more and attack the paint. With him we can cheat a little and go big while sort of still going small (if that makes sense).

I think it will also give Emery a little more rest (much needed) in the 2nd half of the season (same for Fischer). If anything I think this shows how frustrated Rose has to be with this group of players in trying to find player groupings that work. I hope he recognizes the need to avoid sticking with groupings that aren't working and with the help he's received from bench players like Corbin, JP, Chatman and Zac, he can be a little quicker to sub out an ice-cold chucker (or two) and not have the team suffer through them shooting us out of games while they go 3-15 from the floor.
