If UConn were highly desirable for the NYC market, they'd have taken them over Rutgers who has no history of success (that I know of, granted) in any major sport.
UConn is a GREAT basketball school. But if that was a major deciding factor, or if it was believed they would deliver the NYC market, they'd have added UConn, not Rutgers.
At least, this makes logical sense to me.
